I have found it helps us line up our fancy stitches on the edges of garments hems etc.
Also, sometime there is bulk in the way and the stitch won’t feed as well, but if we move it that can help.

Brilliant, I have moved the needle many times when straight stitching but haven’t as yet altered the position of a zig zag stitch.
